Our coffee grid is designed to help you quickly find the perfect coffee for your taste
and brew method.
At Toby's, we've developed a tasting tool called "THE GRID". This measures the intensity
of the four key attributes found in espresso: acidity, flavour, finish, and mouthfeel.
Each coffee and blend is assigned an intensity level for each attribute and it must hit
this level before it can be released for sale. Our confidence in this program comes from
having a fixed recipe for each coffee, allowing us to understand and taste any changes
in environment, roast, or coffee quality.
Description
Kiangothe Coffee Factory sits near the foothills of Mount Kenya, where farmers grow both coffee and tea. The factory works with around 1,300 farmers, with processing water coming straight from the mountain. Cherries are hand-sorted before pulping, then fermented overnight, washed and graded before spending 9–15 days drying on raised beds.
Kiangothe is a classic washed Kenyan. As it ages, the cup becomes rounder and juicier, with citrus acidity wrapped in a syrupy mouthfeel and a sweeter profile than you might expect from Kenya. It’s a good reminder that some coffees are worth giving a little time to, and this one is particularly good with age.
